Once in a while, I'll stop at my local Ollie's Bargain store to get a look around and see what they may have in, as well as to stock up on Keurig cups for my coffee. Lately, they've been getting in some nice railroad books about the Reading Lines, and once in a while have some good movies on DVD at low prices.
Anyway, they've started to get in Christmas stock, including some Lionel branded items (nice canvas prints, Christmas ornaments), and this year, the G Gauge Snoopy train set.
Last year I missed out on getting one of the NASCAR sets, and since this set was $79.99 and I had some extra money this paycheck, I figured I'd give it a try!
First the set is nicely decorated, actually looking somewhat like a more normal train and not garishly painted. Engine is their 2-8-2 "Berkshire" from the Polar Express, Pennsylvania, Santa Fe, Canadian Pacific, et al. sets with boxcar and caboose.
I got the set Monday and was able to get it out of the box last night to give it a try.
I know a lot of people bash Lionel for these sets, but I have the Pennsy and Polar Express ones, and just like those, this Snoopy set is just great fun to run! To me, if it's a lot of fun and I'm enjoying running it, then it's worth every penny.
This set, to me, was worth it completely! Plus it made for a nice shopping trip, since I bought that, a box of the Pre War and Post War ornaments and 2 of the canvas prints (identical ones, one for me and one for my father for Christmas).
If you want a nice G Gauge set, give this one a try! I'm enjoying it a lot!
