i saw on facebook lionel is releasing another HO catalog for may
i really hope for new locomotive tooling perhaps a diesel powered super set with like 10 cars would really make me happy. i don't really do HO but have considered getting some just to play around with
what do you guys think?

@paigetrain if you're just looking for something to play around with and if you're on a budget, you might want to at least take a look at other options in addition to Lionel. A search at lionelstore.com with a filter for HO and Train Sets gives you https://www.lionelstore.com/ca...titem_gauge=HO-Gauge with 6 sets, 5 of which are $429.99 list, and 3 out of 6 are Christmas sets. On Bachmann's site a filter for HO train sets yields 20 sets, in a very wide range from steam to diesel, old and modern, that average $369.70, from $189 up to $599. One set is a 4-8-4 with 9 freight cars for $499. Now the Lionel sets look like they all have a LionChief remote whereas the Bachmann's are mostly DC or DCC ready with a couple featuring E-Z Command digital control. I don't know what will be in a new Lionel catalog, Cody, but I'm just giving something to consider. In HO there are many more options than with O.

Stick with what you have.
Experimenting with several RR gauges can be a good idea if you're just getting started. Play with them awhile and give careful thought as to what you like/dislike about each gauge. Make notes. Check back with them from time to time. Don't buy too many of each and especially the high end equipment until you decide what direction you plan to go. Expensive items can be difficult to resell sometimes and you have the potential to lose more $$$.
Take your time, talk with other hobbyists and attend train shows if possible. Each gauge and scale has it's strong points and appeal. You are still young enough to experience vast changes in wants and likes in a relatively short period of time. You probably have heard several of us older folks say "I sure wish I could change over to ***** but I have too much 'invested' in *** now to change. Remember that phrase...
Purchase used until you know for sure what you want to do.
The catalog is up now. Not much to talk about. The only locomotive offered is 20th Anniversary Polar Berk.
