Is there any one of Lionel's intermodal cranes that is any better or any worse, out of all the releases of the cranes ?

Not that I know of. They all have the same design of gearing, which means most, if not all of them will require repair when the plastic drive gear in the lift cradle splits. I am told that all metal replacements are available. I would not buy the plastic gear/metal shaft replacement part. That just delays the problem for a while. The other option is to repair the broken gear, which can be done, with a little skill and luck.

My 2 cents.
