Hi all,
I've long heard the term 'factory touch up' in auction descriptions, etc. Most claim Lionel employees did this on a regular basis back in the day-a few others have said "nonsense." I picked up a near C-8 6454 NYC (bright orange) car recently via an auction house. The car is beautiful yet I've noticed some areas where the orange paint had small-what appears to be- 'touch up areas.' Roof. body near door, even on the car underside border. Perfect paint match but still not disclosed orig. and obviously something I'd have to mention when the day-the one that comes to us all-comes when I start liquidating my collection. Wondering about Lionel's paint process in 1948 and if anyone can shed any light on this.
Thanks up front!
