My model 36292 when powered just produces noise rather than a loco sound. I tried lower track voltage. Presume this is just an audio amplifier that should receive its loco sound signal from another electronic board. Is that correct?

The 8801 Blue comet has only the 'sound of steam' white noise generator. The caps do dry out and go bad. You can try to replace them, sometimes it works some times it doesn't. @Lionel Parts ( John Severns) has new replacements in stock. If you want to upgrade, he also has the sound of steam and whistle boards.          Addendum; I just noticed the original posters post date.

Thanks. I don’t have a Blue Comet but acquired the board in a package of items. Appears I’d need one of the sound boards just to determine whether my 36292 is fully operational. Guess I’ll pass it on if someone wants to test it with a Comet and possibly have spare parts. Thanks for the fast response sir!

It only makes a static white noise sound. It you want to sell it, drop me a line.

Yep, white noise. Like turning an old analog tv on and off for chuff. You aren't missing much.
