Lionel SP Tank Train

Mark, sounds like you have some new info compared to what's posted on the Lionel website shipping schedule.  Not all that surprising though given the website's abysmally poor track record of disinformation -- and I'm being as polite as I can.  

I really don't know why Lionel even bothers publishing ETA dates for these items.  How/Why these dates slip as much as they do just amazes me.  We see stuff slip a month or two for 12 months straight... and now we see new ETA's for some of those items out on the horizon 5-7 months.    Just gives the appearance that Lionel has no clue when stuff will be made by it's overseas suppliers -- nor how long it actually takes to make this stuff once an overseas factory decides they'll schedule production of an item.  Gotta be frustrating to run a business like that... Or perhaps they just don't care, 'cause that's the way it is.   

And given all this... folks are already beginning to drool over the prospects of a 2014 catalog due out in under a month's time!!!    Go figure.

The dummy was NOT cancelled I picked mine up on preorder about a month after York but was told they made seriously low numbers of these.  I tried to get a second one with no luck.  I have been tracking the set and as you have realized it will be about a year late

I do know when you try to search the dummy number on Lionel's site it says item not found but they indeed did make it becasue I have one sitting waiting on the set but for now it looks great with the first run of that set from about 6 years ago.  They guy I got it from told me it was a chore to acquire it from who he gets his Lionel orders from so that led me to believe they indeed made very few of them like I was told.

Just checked Lionels site and it says the set will ship in Jan 14 as well as the add on tankers but seriously doubt we'll see them this month

I would have loved to get this set (including the original release) but I just can't get past the modelling discrepancies of Lionel's SD40T-2s.  I may just try to get the tank cars in a set breakup if I'm lucky and pull them with my MTH SD45T-2s as they were much better done.

Well if anyone knows of a dummy for sale, please let me know.

Well I'm really amazed about the set. I wanted it to match the first set. I received the extra power unit (I did not order the dummy) last year in January, so I figured that the set would not be far behind. So the engines have been made for the set, so I imagine that the cars are the problem.

I'm still waiting on the CN piggyback set, the extra piggyback cars I got over a year ago. Probably still waiting on the die-cast tractor trailers to be made. Also still waiting on the N&W Pocahontas set, the engines have been made so I guess they are waiting for the passenger cars.

Charlie Ro is now showing ETA's for both the N&W Pocahontas set and the SP TankTrain set as 6/10/2014.
