Lionel speeder wiring???

The 2 brown ring lugs go to your 2 pickup rollers (center rail).  The black is the “ground/neutral” and should mount to the metal frame.  

Awesome...thanks...looks like that works...i guess there must be an obvious place it mounts to the frame... i will look this weekend and see if i can put it back together ...

Did you find the mount point for the ground wire?  I'm doing a small project with one right now.  I think I got a pretty good answer today, but it doesn't hurt to ask someone else.

The logical frame connection is the two screws, that's where you can pick up the wheel connection.

The yellow arrow points to the ground/common screw that Lionel utilized.  The black wire has a ring lug attached.   

I'm very sorry to be so confused after @gunrunnerjohn gave me some great help, but I don't think the Lionel stuff is the same.  I've attached pics of the Lionel speeder body and wheel set.  There is no screw on the Lionel body that I can see like the one on the Kline.  On the car body, the wheels set in slots that are circled in red.  Those slots, and the entire body are metal.  Each wheel assembly has 2 square metal holders/bolts (?), circled in red, that fit securely into the slots in the body (note that the holder in the picture isn't in the right spot).  Those holders are not electrical conductors, they isolate the body from the outsider track rails.  When I test the continuity from the wheels to frame, I get nothing.  GRJ said to use the screws that secure the motor to the body as ground.  Those 2 holders are circled in blue, and that's what I plan to do.  I'm waiting for parts to finish this, so I can't check anything out right now.  I'll post something when I do, perhaps late next week.

I totally forget what i did... but i do remember it being confusing... something about the way the roller was insulated or something(seemed almost backwards to me)...i will see if i can dig it out and see anything without having to dismantle it this weekend...

One more thing on it from memory...i think i ended up soldering the wires to the rollers because when i used the screw on top i wasn't getting any power from it...not sure if this makes any sense...

I remember the rollers being more trouble than the wheels (frame) connection.  The whole mechanism is a bit flimsy in any case.

I burned up a couple of springs and collectors figuring it out. I’ll post some pics here on how that works next week.

As can be guessed, @gunrunnerjohn was correct in what he told me.  The screws that hold the motor in the frame are great ground points.  While the bolt-type things that hold the wheel assembly into the frame isolate the body from the outside rail, the worm gear on the wheel axle contacts the motor worm gear and provides a pathway.  I soldered an eyelet onto some wire, screwed it into the motor mount, and verified that that connection does go to ground.  I suspect that when I did my previous post, that was without the motor being mounted into the frame.  Once that's done the entire frame should be able to be a ground contact.

I'm still waiting on some parts to finish this, so more in a few days.
