when I run this engine at its slowest speed step, the 4 chuffs per rotation still seems a bit more frantic than I'd like it go. I'd like it really creep along with so many chuffs (like DCS). Or at least be able to switch to 2 chuffs.

if I put diodes on the motor, could this slow it down a bit more, or would that blow the boards? And could I install a 2 chuff switch easily?

This locomotive had Odyssey, so all the diodes will do is cause the Odyssey to turn up the voltage to maintain the speed.  If you want better low speed performance from this model, you'll have to consider the ERR Cruise Commander M to replace the Odyssey motor driver.

Thank you for the swift informative response. If I install an ERR cruise board, will i have to lose the sound board that already exists in favor of an ERR sound set, or no? Love the sounds it already has. Thanks!
