I was planning on updating the smoke unit in my PA Tug boat with a new resistor as it has never smoked well.  The smoke unit is a Standard Lionel 8057.  The web site lists the unit as having a 27 ohm resistor.  When I pulled the smoke unit out, I noticed the resistor seemed a bit different so I decided to get a reading from my meter.  The resistor gives a reading of 68.4.  I tested it three times.  Same result.

Does anyone know if Lionel used different resistors in the tug boats or do I just have a bad resistor?  I was going to put a 20 ohm resistor in to improve performance but I don't want to go from a 68 ohm to a 20 ohm and ruin something.

Thoughts?

Don,

I looked up that model number on Lionel's site and it only gives you the part number of the smoke unit& pcb.  It states they are not available.  it also does not give any info on the smoke unit.  I tried searching the part number of the smoke unit but it gives no info. I would have to take one apart and get a reading on the resistor used.
