I am having an issue with the subject steam engine, which I bought used. It runs fine until it comes across some O-27 switches I just added. Switches are open, meaning I am not forcing it into a 27" curve. However, the train runs fine on the 42" loop until it comes across the switch. It doesn't derail, it stops and freezes.

I am new to switches and admittedly installed steel pins on all 3 rails. Is there possibly still some loss of connectivity at the switch or maybe a short? Other engines may sound cut out but keep moving.

Best solution is to use a voltage meter and check for drops or loss of power. May be helpful to know which version O27 switches you have.

If there's a pickup roller on the tender, wire the loco & tender together through a tether (separable via a modular connector.)
