Graffiti genset and maybe the 6 PRR 100 ton hoppers
Surprised to see my picture in it !
I like the S1, but I was a bit disappointed they didn't include whistle steam in those. I'm not nearly as enamored by the safety valve steam feature.
All of the Shark Noses look awesome. (Wonder if they addressed the ginormous gap between units?)
Cotton Belt GP-7.
PRR S1 (which one?).
C&NW & UP Roof Hatch Box Cars.
Nice catalog.
I'm usually not a sensitive guy... but that "Sofa King Mattresses" seems unseemly for Lionel.

Well, like Ryan said the S1 did not have a whistle but instead a horn. Instead of just getting a horn, Lionel decided to go ahead and put a whistle in it. Also, Ryan said that there was nowhere to put a whistle or even the system for the effect so they substituted it with the safety vale effect.
Interesting, all the models have whistles, I didn't actually realize that the prototype didn't have a whistle. That would make it difficult to have a place for the steam.
Glad to see Rutland ten wheeler with added whistle steam over the last run. Since I had Harry re-letter a NH ten wheeler to Rutland not sure I need another. Other than that nothing that interest me.
Just 2 PS-1 hatch cars for me.
Waiting for the wagon top cab and flat spot cars to arrive in August.
The flat with stakes and I-Beam load looks interesting (I think that's new, right? Or my memory is not as good as it used to be). Probably the Angela Trotta Thomas "Well Stocked Shelves - bottom shelf" boxcar.
A light catalog for me in the "must haves" department, which is a good thing (for me, at the moment). I possibly went a little too heavy on Lionel V1 and the final MTH catalog, so this one will be a nice break if I only order a piece or 2 of rolling stock.

The Ten Wheelers are very tempting especially at a very attractive price. The Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern 225 in particular looks quite attractive.
Normally I'd groan at the reintroduction of the light Mikados for the umpteenth time, but I'm very curious how they'll do no. 4070. I'm a little surprised it wasn't lettered for the Cuyahoga Valley Line, but I'm very interested in how Lionel does the 5 different whistle options for this locomotive.
Hopefully one of these whistles will be an option!
The Lionmaster Cab Forwards look tempting, but I'm a bit disappointed those don't have whistle steam. Shame...
The Standard O rolling stock I'm happy to see back, and at reasonable prices, too.

I will admit the S-1 is intriguing but I won't pull the trigger until I see one in person. They do look great in the catalog. I was hoping for a few more Star Trek items but I guess I'll have to wait another catalog for a Dilithium Ore car.
I'' look through it better tonight but I'm pretty saturated with trains right now so it will have to be something special before I pull the trigger for sure. Again I will risk waiting to see the delivered products first.
@KOOLjock1 I too was surprised in the Sofa King building. I figured that was MTH's gimmick but I guess Lionel is taking it over. Maybe Mike sold them the rights for naming buildings.
Nothing much. Lots of redoes and repaints using tooling from the Todd Wagner era of product development from over 15 years ago. The Gensets are a big step down from my UP Vision Line version. I purchased a Legacy NYC ten-wheeler the last time it was offered. A thoroughly redone Legacy PRR T1 with the correct tender would have been a bigger hit than a redo of the S1. The Flyer is exceedingly thin. It is all 'academic' anyway. No more Chionel for this engineer until Lionel finds a place to make this stuff somewhere (anywhere!) else than the PRC.
Enjoy, if you can.
Bob
I'll have to look some more. 10 minutes isn't enough to really lose myself in there. Some of the Diesel's may be in my mind for once. That's a big change, I love steam you know.
I'm definitely in for a 4-6-0...which one is the hard thing to figure out. I think I'll have to narrow it down between a Canadian Pacific/Strasburg 972, Boston and Maine or Rutland.
Was a little bummed about the Southern 4501...was hoping it would be green. MTH did a beautiful one a few years ago I always kind of kicked myself for not picking up.
The GP7 sets are tempting...that Southern catches my eye and I'm not a Southern guy at all. Despite just taking delivery of the MTH Daylight Cab Forward, something tells me it "might be nice to have a black one...."
Ah decisions, decisions...
I was hoping for an SP caboose for the new vision locos, but the catalog is mainly remaking old toolings.
The highs of catalog anticipation are matched by the lows of seeing virtually nothing for me. But that's fine. I'm mostly a PW guy who operates with my ZW and is always on the look out for some traditional stuff, especially the PW inspired or classics items. Lionel seems to have all but abandoned that market (notwithstanding the way overpriced SF Set in Volume 1).
Having said that, I had to go back and check but do have a half dozen items coming from Volume 1, all with Q3 and Q4 deliveries. One of these is the Lion Chief 2.0 0-6-0t which will be my first LC 2.0 item and am definitely looking forward to that one.
As is my usual custom will go back over the catalog again, including the hard copy I know will be coming from Ro. Sometimes I find something the 2nd or 3rd time around.
I guess I've been living under a rock, but what's the deal with Sofa King Mattresses? I mean, I vaguely remember an Saturday Night Live skit about it, but that's it. When you reply...be kind.
I can't get too excited about Lionel catalogs anymore. For the life of me, I don't understand their list pricing structure, which of course does affect discount pricing. Lionel has always said it is the traditional starter set lines that pay the bills and keeps Lionel in business. Little wonder as those have to be high profit items, as the traditional rolling stock list prices are nearly right on par with the separate sale scale rolling stock items, especially considering any tooling costs and higher production costs due to the nature of the product details and production process.
And then there's no actual railroad names on any of the separate sale traditional rolling stock. I suppose the specialized and licensed paint schemes make the on-par with scale item prices seem a little more bearable... but not to me.
The one item that caught my attention in this particular catalog, is how the recently introduced traditional N5 caboose (a modernized SP style caboose) that had been listing for $75-$80, is now branded under the "Standard 0" line for a list price of $60.00. They're probably having it made in Vietnam, but I doubt they're retooling it, so I don't know how a traditionally proportioned car suddenly becomes a scale proportioned car with a lower price to boot????
Oh well, it's not my company. And I do want Lionel to stay in business, so they'll do what they have to do.
But just as certain, I don't see the Brianel Kitbash, Rebuild and Repaint shops having to close their doors any time soon.

Say it five times, fast. That is all.
If you still don't see it, Google "sofa king joke" and a lot of explanations will pop up. Apparently a few business have really been named this over the years, so it's prototypical in some way (unlike the "Wei, Cheetum and Howe" law firm, which I will go out on a limb and suspect probably never has been an actual name of a law firm . Though the law firm one is less vulgar, just a little disrespectful to the honest lawyers.)

Larry,
It's a crass play on words (say it to yourself quickly). I'm sure very funny to a 15 year old boy, but horrifying to a grandmother looking to buy a sweet gift for her grandchild.

Well off the bat here is what I have got by looking through the catalog briefly:
S1 in the Callender variation,
T&P 4-6-0,
Southern 4501,
Maybe the gray version of the Cab Forward,
and maybe a Santa Fe Sharknose.
The only problem is I can only choose one! Too many choices and too little cash.
Something(s) NYC and perhaps the New Haven caboose. Nice catalog. I may not buy any this time around, but I appreciate the effort Lionel is making to have a line of products that appeal to those who want to spend less money. In terms of sets, LionChief separate sale command locos and now their new line of freight cars, they are, amazingly, the low price leader for these products, except for Menard's freight cars. Hopefully they will sell well and their offerings of $40 freight cars, $200 locos and $200-350 sets will be expanded.

Ah!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Jon & Dave. I don't even think I had to say it 5 times. I feel smarter now, thanks!!
I like the Ann Arbor PS-2 hopper and the Grand Trunk USRA Light Steam Locomotive.
Other than City of LA engines at an insane MSRP, zero for me. Usual boring black engines with east coast orientation. Not a single passenger car or engine that you can ride on today. Going to really miss MTH. I'll buy some more exisitng MTH stock instead.
I am looking at the Rock Island E7 set to pull my Golden State cars. Unfortunately, the catalog picture looks like Lionel is again using an E6 pilot instead of a correct E7 pilot. Hopefully they are using pictures from their previous catalog and will correct this on the model.

Well then she probably won't buy it I think it's funny, personally.
Just an FYI there are few Sofa King furniture stores around.
I think in one of the other topics on here there was a discussion about Pennsy colors and stripes. I believe someone said that they never ever run the green with 5 stripes, but always do so on the red. Is that correct, I can't remember for some reason. I think this was discussed earlier in the year about GG1's and some of the other Diesel's like the E8's.
Sharks are always interesting, may consider Pennsy depending on what else and the stripes answer.

Can the 4-6-0 legacy steam engines be controlled by a LionChief universal control?

Yes.

The first order for freight sharks was delivered in 1949 with the DGLE and 5 stripes scheme. The stripes originally did not go down the nose, but were extended by the shops. In the mid-50s when they were repainted, they received the single stripe of a freight locomotive (as in this catalog). There are plenty of photos showing 5-stripe and 1-stripe sharks running together. The 5-stripe lasted at least into the mid-60s.
I have the Lionel earlier shark set with 5-stripes.
There never were any freight sharks painted in Tuscan Red. The red shark in this catalog is a continuation of Lionel's fantasy line of trains.

Marty, I agree with you on Star Trek. Also I'm surprised Lionel is not making a Star Wars set with additional cars & accessories, considering how popular Star Wars is along with Star Trek. I am a Star Wars fan but I also do like Star Trek as well.

I can't imagine what the Star Wars license would cost. I doubt Star Trek was cheap either though.
Legacy 4-6-0. Gonna be hard to decide which one lol. The Rutland is really sharp looking... as is the R&N 225. BUT the tooling is only accurate for NYC. Decisions, decisions....
@Grampstrains posted:I agree. No place for that in a product line pitched to families.
The "I P Drips" plumbing store falls in the same category........
The S1, for sure. I've been lusting after that model waiting for a Legacy version for years now. The NS track inspection theatre car with Wi-Fi is also a shoe-in; I wish it was a 4K camera, but 1080p will do. The real dilemma for me is whether my existing MTH HW Madison PRR passenger set is prototypical enough for the S-1 to pull or do I spring for the streamlined set in the catalog as well. I have an MTH PRR T1 (newly upgraded to PS3) that'll run with those as well, so I guess it's more of a budgetary question than a dilemma regarding the streamliners.
