I have the new Lionel North Pole Zephyr train 6-38848, hooked it up and ran it using Legacy. This is a premium scale train and runs beautifully with awesome horn, but the headlight, cab lights, and front running lights won't stay on; I saw them come on briefly after direction change, so I know they work. Tried re-programming 3 times. Tried Aux 2. Also, the backup light and rear running lights stay on all the time. It'd be a pain to send this back for this issue, but a train without functioning lights is like a sailboat without a sail. Any suggestions?

I can only answer part of your question. I have the Mark Twain Legacy Zephyr and the rear lights stay on all the time. I think that the earlier TMCC version did the same. Not sure whether this is prototypical but one of the experts here can probably tell you.
If the forward lights are not staying on when they should that might indicate a loose wire somewhere or a bad forward light PCB board but you'd have take off the body shell to check and I would not undertake that task with a new engine. If you don't get a more definite answer on this Forum email Mike Reagan at Lionel and see if he has an answer.
Thanks for your response. I filled out the Lionel repair form on-line and submitted, but haven't received any reply as of yet, is that the same as e-mailing Mike Reagan?

No, Mike has a direct email which I think is still mreagan@lionel.com. I recommend that you keep the message short and send it early in the day. If there's an answer he knows right off the bat, including if you need an RA, he usually responds fast.
These sets are tough. When I got my Burlington Zephyr last year it went on a siding that sent it to the floor. It was a disaster, and after having spent almost a grand on it, to say the least, I was upset.
after a half hour at the bench I had straightend the frane and had it all running fine. There were a few small cosmectic scratches, but it looks fine and runs fine.
We will be in Chicago next week and probably go and see the real thing at the Museum of Science. And Industry.
this has to be one of my favorites. What makes it so was the spirit of the country in the midst of the depression to produce such a forward thinking technological marvel to propel tnis country into the future.
