Gentlemen,

First off, my name is Mark, I'm 67, I live in Modesto (CA), and I am new here, but not new to O-scale.   I'm wondering if anybody else has one of the monsters in the subject line.  I picked one up at the Dearborn Nationals in the 70's, and I've yet to see another, or meet anybody else who owns one.

Thanks,

Mark in Modesto

Sadly, that would be a problem...my attic layout room has been occupied by a tenant for the last ten years, and it would take some digging to find it.  I'll ask him if I can take a look and, if it's ok with him, and I find it, I'll take and post a few.

I know it was on the cover of one of the last pre-war catalogs, with Rollin himself holding it stretched out, with a big grin on his face!  If memory serves, the War Department drafted his machinery for wartime stuff, and they never went back to the locomotive levels of before.  More's the pity, eh?

CTR =  "Choose the right" is a saying or motto among members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) that is taught to children and used by members of the church as a reminder to make choices that will help an individual to live righteously. The phrase is taken from an LDS hymn which has that title.     As a member of the LDS Church I would be HAPPY to talk to any of you about my faith, but it needs to be off forum. I have no knowledge if Stephen was referring to this --- but that's what it means to me.   Bruce in Mount Airy, MD

After reading your question, I took a closer look at the springing...it has cast leaf springs, not working.

The whole thing seems a bit cruder than I would have expected from CLW, but I could be wrong about that, as I'm not sure when CLW started producing models.  This one is definitely 'old school', rather than 'older school', if that makes any sense.

These things are rare as hens teeth, but show up now and then.  Vince Waterman showed up in Chicago about a quartercentury ago with one for $500, and it went begging.  Mine came from Bud Cantlay (RIP).

I lowered the cab and turret cover to match RR blueprints, weathered it, and lived happily ever after.  If you would like to see mine, I can bump my thread on that other forum if I can find it.  I can no longer post photos here, and have a difficulttime editing my many typos.

The CLW is ex Scale Craft, and it has no prototype.  The leaf springs are lovely.

Yes.  Google "CLW Alco PA-1 Radius Required?" And you will see on page 1 the CLW, converted to FEF-1.  Then on that same site, search for "Doorstops!" And you will find my Lobaugh FEF.

I also have a USH and Lionel FEF, and photos of at least the Lionel appear in there somewhere, lost in time.

By the way, check out that 1940 lost wax set of rods and valve gear linkage!

Thanks, Bob, I would very much like to see yours, and I'd bet your butt hurts after a coast to coast Cub ride!  Did you buy one 'over there' and bring it home?

I know this isn't a taildragger forum, but I love old airplanes, too.  (I took my fright lessons in a Luscombe 8A out of Columbia Airport in just barely Northern California.)

Bob2,

I found all sorts of neat stuff on the 'doorstops' search but, sadly, the Lobaugh FEF wasn't part of it.  I went through five pages to no avail.  If you're Bob Turner, we've met more than several times, at the earliest O-Scale Wests at the Dunfey.

I changed scales when I rented my attic to a friend ten+ years ago, but I find my interest starting to re-glow in the firebox.
