Great minds think alike! I made two, one for articulated locos and one for diesels and smaller steam locos. I also have a couple of foam cradles, but find it easier to get things to sit at an angle with the "hammock".

If a guy is smart enough to work on a model locomotive, he can easily make his own cradle.

I do the same except I use blocks of various foam.  This enables me to custom make a cradle for each loco by moving the blocks.  Then I do not knock off delicate details.
