I have looked up this Lionel Pacemaker boxcar number 16650 and I get some conflicting information on it, namely some information says it has rail sounds and some information said there were no sounds. Anyone own one of these? If you have one and you can tell me what features yours has it would be really helpful. Many thanks in advance.

It should have the Diesel Railounds. However, it isn't uncommon to find that the shells have been swapped, so you may find "examples" not equipped with the sound internals.
Here is a picture with the box end clearly stating RailSounds:
Mine had diesel sounds. I often switched bodies to match engines. Great product.
Thanks guys! Quick question on this is that one dealer on Ebay claimed that the unit has a horn and bell. Is this the case and does it work like common engine horn/bell using transformer control?
It is my understanding that it uses the traditional DC offsets to trigger horn and bell sounds, just like a conventional engine so equiped.
@bmoran4,
Thank you so much for that information. That sounds like that is just the item I want. I have two Diesel engines without horns, so that is perfect!
One word of warning: If this is NIB, be sure to remove the shell and check the insulation BEFORE operation, particularly if the car has the board fastened to the metal frame with foam tape. The tape may have degraded and may cause short circuiting, damaging or ruining the board.

Swapped mine with a REA boxcar, so more compatible with all engines and passenger consists. Also, now have a Pacemaker boxcar w/o sounds. Lionel also made one with loco sounds.

When I get the car I will of course check it over to make sure everything looks good and works as it should. This is not a NIB item and was part of the sellers own collection, which he claims he is thinning out. Thanks for that suggestion though.
@Jushavnfun and Lynne Carper:
Great suggestions from both of you, which I plan to try and do. I would imagine the frame is close to the Lionel 6464 box cars and I will have to see what 6464 cars I have that will work.
I have tried to find the loco sounds version without success so far. I am wondering what kind of whistle went with it? I would really love to find a sound board for a big steam whistle like for a Big Boy as my K-line big Boy whistle died out years ago. Currently I have the old Williams steam engine whistle sound board in the tender which is not great.
I tried to find either of shell swaps, no luck, gets put away every year after xmas. However, I don't think a 6464 has same shell to frame attachment points. Look at your pacemaker shell. I think it has 1 screw at one end and 2 tabs to insert in frame at other. Another type of car is a US Mail RWB. Lionel made several boxcars in this period with same attachment format.
I received my sound car today and I think it is great. On the inside they do not have the foam tape that Mitch said I should be concerned about which is good and there is no need for a battery which is a plus in my book also.
I have already switched bodies with one of my other Lionel cars and I believe there are others that I have that will work as well. The longer style freight cars that Lionel made (6464 type) seem to fit fine.
Always good to see a satisfactory ending such as yours!
