I'm looking for kits/models that will make either of the cars listed below.  Any suggestions?

I received the following information from the ACLHS plus I found this great list of resin kits and and out of production.

From the stenciling diagram information, the following cars came with the slogan, “Route of the Robert E. Lee”:

          10000 – 10199  new 1938  class AF, 50’ 1932 style (“X29”type) boxcar, double doors

          11000 – 11999  new 1938  class AF1, 40’ round roof boxcar, double doors

          22000 – 22199  new 1942  class AF2, 40’ round roof boxcar, double doors

This is not to say other cars did not use that slogan.  It appears to have been in use from 1938 to 1944, as the next group of boxcars delivered in 1944 used “Route of the Silver Meteor”.  Concurrent with this slogan was “Route of the Orange Blossom Special”, used on cars 14000 – 14999 and 17000 – 17999 (all 40’ single door “X29” 1932 type boxcars), from 1937 to 1954.

Get Railway Prototype Cyclopedia RP CYC 13 if you want to model a "correct" SAL round-roof (Turtle-back) boxcar.  The only correct model I've ever seen was in S-scale:

http://www.smokymountainmodelw...om/S_scale_kits.html

The SAL cars are NOT the same as the PRR or B&O cars.

I would be most pleased if a maker would do these in O-scale, but I don't know if I'd be willing to pay what Rich Yoder would ask for them in brass

Paul,

Rails Unlimited has a nice resin model of the Seaboard B-6 1932 ARA boxcar. It's currently available on their site on this page about half way down: http://railsunlimited.ribbonra...odels/40boxcars.html

Also there was a nice resin kit made for the 2008 East Wind O Scale National Convention in Worchester, MA for a B&M XM-1 boxcar (http://www.steamerafreightcars...uto/bm71785main.html) which with some rework can be built into the Seaboard B-4 or B-5 class of Boxcars (http://www.steamerafreightcars...uto/salb345main.html).

The turtle back B-7 boxcar (http://www.steamerafreightcars...to/salb7af1main.html) would require some building to make a correct car. It has a much different car-side design than the PRR X31's it more like a 1932 ARA boxcar with a round roof and Pullman "Dart-Not" ends. No one to date has made an accurate version in resin or brass.

It seems the Speedwich HO decal sets contain the Robert E. Lee slogan.  I didn't see any of the Protocraft SAL car sets. Greg Komar (retired) used to offer dry transfers (and decals) for SAL cars but his sets don't have it either:

http://www.proto48.org/pdf/komar_cat.pdf

And George, I didn't realize you had the resin car list on your web site... Thanx.

Sadly I wasn't thinking clearly when Rich was doing the 2 pocket RDG/CNJ steel hoppers to suggest to him to add on an HTs like in your masthead rotation.   THAT would have been a car.

Sorry for the short thread diversion.
