Love to read about the older days of railroading and your explanations of procedures and investigations, keep it coming.

Have to make an educational correction, Arcade and Attica's center cabs are a 65 ton and an 80 ton, the 44 tonners are retired.  You are correct about the Cummins engines though.

AT&SF did have some 44 tonners (have no idea where they were assigned), but most 44 tonners had Cat V8s with a very few having Buda or Hercules straight 6s.

Blame Lionel for all center cabs becoming a 44 tonner.

From what I understand, 44-tonner #110 is retired (stuffed and mounted on display) but 44-tonner #111 is not retired. However, they have three other engines (including two centercabs which you reference) and don't regularly need #111).
