The majority of Maine Central ( MEC) cabooses I have seen in O gauge/scale from MTH, Lionel, Atlas, etc. are either in the (true) yellow with green stripes or the maroon with gold stripes paint schemes. It is my understanding that the MEC labeled their yellow as "harvest" yellow-and some of the engines were clearly yellow, others had a more a dark yellow which actually appeared as orange. Does anybody know whether any toy train manufacturer made a MEC caboose in the more orange color? Thanks in advance and happy holidays to all !! P Hering

Pretty sure Atlas did a custom run of green MEC cabeese
Harvest was the correct color. I can decorate any shade you want. I collected Weavers NE and Atlas EV cabs. No MTH.

Perhaps slightly off topic but I noticed the F-3 set and Alco engine in the 2020 MTH Vol. 1 catalog are green with orange trim, not yellow. My Atlas caboose is yellow and green. Am not sure I'd care for the orange trim on the locomotives. Then again, the MEC units don't come along that often in 3-rail.
Thanks to all who replied. Thinking about this raises another question which some of you MEC fans may know. In reviewing any books ( of which I have only a few for MEC info.) and/or web sites about Maine Central paint schemes, none mention an orange/green version-rather only the harvest yellow/green. Is it possible that the orange ones are simply from weathering of the original harvest yellow paint-or did MEC actually paint some in that orange shade?. Thanks-turtle7
The MEC is the railroad that I grew up with in the 1970's. Harvest gold/yellow fresh out of the paint shop was very orange. Then the pigments would fade get dirty and start to look gold and yellowish.
(The phone camera copies of the pictures posted were all taken by me from my own collection of photos I shot in the 1970's early 1980's. So there isn't any copyright infringement to worry about)
EMD GP38 #258 fresh out of the Waterville, ME. paint shop. Late 1970's early 80's
See the darker orange paint on the end where it got less UV damage. These photos are from the late 1980's
Atlas O MEC cabosses with varied color.
The top O gauge cabosse is painted with Tru-Color MEC harvest yellow.
The HO boxcar was painted with Floquil railroad color paint (MEC Harvest gold) I prefer the old Floquil paint color. I'm hoping that Scalecoat II MEC Harvest Gold is more like the Floquil. I haven't opened my bottle of the Scalecoat II yet.

Mike M Thanks so much. This is ( you are, actually) exactly the best aspect of this forum- there is usually an "expert" out there in "trainland," somewhere, who has the "right-on" info !! Learning and sharing are always more than half the fun!! Happy Holidays and thanks again. P Hering PS I spent part of my childhood in a home about 30 miles north of Millinockett (Maine) on the east branch of the Penobscot river-just a short distance below the crossing of that river by the B&A.
Glad to help and share my love for the MEC. Look how faded this boxcar is. I just caught it yesterday (Dec. 26th 2019) heading into Rigby Yard South Portland. This was on the Rumford to Portland train.
Seeing these still in this Pine Tree scheme takes me back to 1978 when I would pedal my bicycle down to the River Rd. crossing in Benton Maine to train watch.
