"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

Greetings,

I have been selling a friend's collection, and was almost completely bought out yesterday at a train show. One of the items in his predominantly O gauge collection is a Marklin HO (3 rail)? powered unit with what I'm assuming are working pantographs, and a center pickup on one of the trucks. I would like to test it before offering it for sale. To my knowledge, it has never been run. Can I use a traditional DC power pack to test the engine by applying power to the center pickup and truck wheel? I'm including some photos.

Thanks,

Don

If it's a solenoid reverser, touching a DC pack's leads to the shoe and wheels should make it run at a slower speed as Marklin is 16V AC. Okay for testing. On DC you won't be able to change direction. I don't know if DC would confuse an electronic reverser. Make sure if touching the center pickup doesn't work, try the pantograph. There's a switch on the bottom that chooses the pantograph or center pickup.
