I picked up a black die cast Marx tender today -very reasonable $1. Needs a little help, especially the trucks, the paint is scraped and scratched but no serious damage. Can anyone clue me in on the value ?? My Greenberg book seems high. neat tender though. Thanks

That tender was used on the early 333 Pacific locomotive. Later 33 locos came with the plastic tender that looks like a shortened S gauge Hudson tender.
When K-Line re-released the 333 shell with a can motor, they used the big tender from the 1829, for some strange reason.
The die cast 3661 tenders do sell for quite a bit. Nice ones sell "close" to the book value. Those particular trucks can be hard and pricey to find.

I'd say you got a great buy on a desirable tender.
Thanks for the info, I read once where they were scarce and valuable but never sure. So I gambled a $1 !! I took the body off the frame and have the frames and trucks soaking in strong bleach to remove the rust. The dealer has a couple of freight cars that aren't too bad plus I can sacrifice some wheels and axles for the tender plus a nice tin coal hopper that needs one. He has some passenger cars that are solid but in sad shape as far as paint and rust are concerned. If I can get them cheap it will be a project for the winter. There are two half dome cars but don't remember the names or numbers.
the 3661 diecast metal tender weighs in at ~1.3lbs (0.6kg) so having straight axles and clean, freely turning wheels is very important. i have seen them with the 333 in scale freight sets, but their most notable use is heading up the Marx 3/16" scale NYC passenger sets.
good luck fixing it up.
cheers...gary
