Wednesday returns!  Happy midweek photo day to you.  Another cloudy week for me, so here are some of my most recent train photos from the real world.

All around the roundhouse at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, PA.  This is the Lackawanna RR herald on the nose of F3 number 663, which is owned by the Tri-State chapter of the NRHS.

She sits on track 14 of the roundhouse along with former Boston & Maine F7B 664.  They are expected to hit the high iron with another A unit, F3 664, owned by the Anthracite Railroads Historical Society.

On the right, Canadian Pacific 4-6-2 2317, last run in 2010, and on the left, Canadian National 2-8-2 3254, last run in 2012.

Another track away, we see Baldwin Locomotive Works shop engine 0-6-0 26, which will run again beginning April 17.

Isn't she pretty in green?  That does it for me this week.  Steam season begins this weekend at the Strasburg Rail Road on Saturday, whereas Norfolk & Western RR 611will be heading to Spencer NC tomorrow morning in the veil of darkness.  Next week, Reading & Northern 425 is going to hit the rails, so February is becoming a very steamy month.  Have a great week, everyone!

Part 2 continued from last week's midweek photos, here is the Maryland Midland's activities at Highfield, MD. back on a March day in 2011.
MMID brought cement loads up for CSX pickup, and picked up 2 lumber loads for the NVR modular home factory in Thurmont. The crew split the 3 GP38-3s to facilitate easier switching at the factory. The engines then went back light to their Union Bridge,MD. base.
Later in 2011, MMID's new owners, the Genesee & Wyoming, would start repainting MMID's engines, and would ultimately bring in SD40-3s to replace all but 2 of the 6 GP38s.          All images by Warren W. Jenkins.

Weather has been rough the past few weeks, and three times I found myself driving many miles through a blizzard.  Driving west from Fairmont MN one night I didn't make it home as I-90 was closed.  Last Sunday I headed north into MN in search of trains on the BNSF Marshall Sub but saw nothing at all.  I called a buddy and he said the line was shut down because of the impending blizzard.  Oh yeah, the blizzard.  I started back home but was quickly engulfed by a great gray wall.  Visibility was about 30 feet and the road was snow packed.  (Which makes it both slippery and nearly impossible to see.)  I made it to Pipestone MN and continued on south on Hwy 23, which was much worse.  I couldn't have seen a train even if it was 10 feet away!  It was snowing and the wind was hitting 62 mph.   I drove with my right tires on the rumble strip so I could tell I was still on the road.  I came across a car that had just stopped, right on the highway.  It contained a totally terrified teenage girl!  I got out of my car and had her follow me to the far shoulder of the road, and park it.  At that point I couldn't even see my boots on the ground.  She was 15 (!), and her dad had sent her to the store to buy more snacks for his Superbowl party.  I called the guy, asked if he had any idea how bad it was (he was clueless), told him I'd give the girl a ride to some place safe,  and then continued on south on Hwy 23.  My plan was to break out from the south edge of the blizzard and drop the girl off at her friends in Jasper MN to spend the night.  This worked, and I made it home with no problem.  So anyway, I didn't get any train shots.
