President's Day Weekend will be here shortly bringing back memories of the Steam Weekend in February 1996 when Steamtown and the Friends of the 261 saw five days of steam action between Scranton and Tobyhanna.  Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 was the main star of the show, but on the Saturday and Sunday trips, she was assisted by Canadian Pacific 2317 for the return journey.  Here is 261 getting ready for the trip.

Milwaukee Road Steamtown

Steam and snow have been difficult to locate this winter.  At least steam action will begin this coming weekend at the Strasburg Rail Road.  I hope to post some photos of those trips next week.

Now is the time to post your own photos of the Real Railroad World.  Have a great holiday.

Ed, I like that first shot a lot.  I don't really have anything like that around here.  Well, this has been a tough winter on me.  No snow, and it hardly ever gets below zero.    There's been a lot of blue skies, which aren't my favorite.  SO.....I can just switch to black & white!  For this week I have something a bit different.  I'll call it "130 years".  Below are three photos taken with lenses made 130 years apart, using my Chamonix 45n-1 camera (4x5) and Ilford HP5 film (ISO 400.)  First shot is from my local Sioux Falls BNSF yard, and made with a Voigtlander 175mm Petzval lens made in Germany in 1865.  Second shot is of a BNSF coal train south of Marshall, MN.  Shot was made with an 1890s E&HT Anthony ~100mm rapid rectilinear lens.  Final shot is from inside K.C. Union Station and made with a modern Nikon 180mm f5.6 lens from 1996.  Snow is forcasted for Monday, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Great photo with the symbolism of the light. Light as we know it now, is a given and it makes me think about the day when cavemen got a fire started and generated light.

NKP 765 mystery lady? Looks like she needed some cheering up... possibly a wave from the engineer....      Looks like Rich's signature yellow glove to me...

I went to Cooke Rd in Columbus, OH last Friday (as I do every Friday).  I was able to catch a few NS trains.

I would have liked the train a little more to the right but I also wanted to reflection of the Loco in the water...I will keep practicing this shot and hopefully master it.

Unfortunately my break from school is right at midday so sometimes the sun really makes good photography difficult.  This is often overcame using black and white hence this black and white photo:
