Today is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the 40 day season known as Lent.  This also brings us out of the waning days of winter to the Easter season in spring.

Helping to create a bit of ash this past weekend was the Strasburg Rail Road's no. 475.

Yesterday, Feb 21 marked the anniversary of the first run of a steam wagon on rails in Wales (1804).  Richard Trevithick and his successors have been keeping steam running for 208 years.  Steam is eternal

Did anyone else have a good week chasing or catching trains lately?  If so, post your results here.

The original bridge was replaced because the Strasburg built a new unloading facility for large, modern freight cars adjoining the parking lot by the enginehouse. I heard this new bridge is wide enough for a team of 6 draft horses. The curve at Lehman Place Junction is wider, too. That required a good bit of earthmoving.

Always something new and different on the Strasburg!

Wife and I took a break today, and rode up to the Fairhope road crossing of the CSX right of way on the east slope of Sand Patch grade which is about ten miles from the summit.

We got lucky, caught four trains there, just missed an east bound west bound pass here at the crossing.

The first two photos I made at track level, east of the crossing. I was using my telephoto zoom, there's more room between me and the trains than it looks.

In that first photo you can see a bench railfans have put up on a little hill. The last two shots in this post were made from up there. The first autorack was shot at track level west of the road crossing.

Great pictures being shared again this week.  Only picture I have to share is the Reno Snow train sitting in Sparks.  Not very exciting but love seeing clean passsenger engines.

Last Wednesday AMTK 66 was the leader for the Reno Snow train.  The more I see these heritage units the more I like them.
