I'm off to a late start on the Midweek Photos, but we have a few more hours of Wednesday, so let's get right to the photos.
Thursday of this week is Saint Patrick's Day, so green is the word on my post this week. Green painted steam locomotive 26, built as a shop goat for the Baldwin Locomotive Works, she sits in the Steamtown National Historic Site locomotive shop, getting her air pump swapped out. In the meantime, her bell is off with some other appliances. She starts her new life in regular service this coming April 17.
That gaping hole in the boiler jacketing is for her air pump bracket, which broke due to a larger, heavier pump being placed on the boiler side. This experimental larger pump was to allow her to haul longer trains, but normally she will only carry two behind her.
A different pot o' gold we see on her crosshead guides. This is lubricating oil caught in a little bit of sunshine.
Another green machine, painted in a pale green primer, is Boston & Maine 3713, undergoing her own total rebuild in the same shop.
Pullman green coach 346 from the Delaware Lackawanna & Western is also undergoing long-term rebuild in the shop.
That is my contribution. Celebrate whichever March holiday you enjoy, in whatever manner you choose. Please add your own colors to this thread, since I know you all have a favorite railroad and sometimes an off-color unit the railroad runs. See you next week.
