Happy Wednesday, boys and girls! The Midweek Photo thread is our way on OGR to keep up with the spectacular and often mundane world of the Real World as it relates to railroading. Part of the real world imposed itself on me this past week, as my 9 year old computer tells me it is full, and can accept no more new photos. While I am sorting out this dilemma, here are some photos of trains you might find interesting. Good news on my computer is it hasn't eliminated old photos.
Last week, I was trying out some "new" photo angles in the Steamtown National Historic Site yard, while the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad was working in the yard. As many of us know, the photo we imagine isn't always the same when a train fills in the view. My focus is a bit off in these pics, but now I know how to frame the next trains coming through. Especially when the steam engine begins running next month.
The location is around the 500 block of Lackawanna Ave, between Cedar Ave and South Washington Ave. The buildings in the background are the Bosak building, which is about 6 stories tall, and the old Bosak Bank. The tall building is empty for now, and law offices are in the bank.
The train is headed to the Mattes St tower, on the right, and the old Railway Express Agency office building on the left. The REA is now dental offices.
On the steam engine front, the first set of repaired drive wheels for Boston & Maine 4-6-2 no 3713 arrived in the Steamtown locomotive shop last Thursday, March 21. You see the fundraising chart and donation box on the left. The wheels were repaired at the Strasburg Rail Road shop. A new axle is in place, and the 20+ cracks have been repaired. The next two sets of wheels arrived the following day.
Fans of the Genessee Valley Transportation roads were happy to see this unit in Scranton. No. 2453 is normally based in Utica, NY on the Mohawk Adirondack & Northern line. It has made numerous trips to Scranton over the years. The snowplow is a nice touch. The Scranton-based units don't have plows.
That is my contribution for this week. I hope you have found interesting trains in your location. Thank you to all who share what you catch.
