Here we are, ladies and gentlemen.  In the ninth month of the year.  2016 is whizzing by, like a Casey Jones-led make-up-time train. Welcome to Midweek Photos.  A chance for us to share some of the real railroad world as we catch it.

This past weekend, we celebrated a holiday dedicated to workers.  It was made a national holiday as a direct result of the Pullman strike in the 1890s.  Railroads had an impact on the life of the times, and some of those times were celebrated at Steamtown this weekend over the Railfest 2016 event. DSC_3072

Items on display for the weekend.  F3 663 and F7B 664 (above) and Lehigh  Valley C420 414 matched with Lehigh Valley business car 353.

Delaware Lackawanna brought their historic freight train including EMC switcher no 426, sand cars from the DL&W and Lehigh Valley, an Erie Lackawanna piggyback flat and caboose 885, also from the DL&W.

The Electric City Trolley Station & Museum brought out this beauty, no. 64 from the East Troy Electric railway.  The Brill Bullet has not been out much this year either.

Tank engine 3  from EJ Lavino was brought out of the roundhouse, too.  A lot of well-placed items made for an interesting weekend.

And, of course, our steam star, Baldwin no. 26 steaming up in the roundhouse.

More to come.  Get your photos ready to add to the thread, and have a great week.

Back to the Railfest.  It's nearly 9:00, and superintendent Debbie Conway gives a briefing to the interpretation staff on what is to happen on during the day, and other items like emergency procedures.

Opening of the day.  Healthy crowd of people for this early in the day.

The grand marshal of the event is Charlie Liberto.  He was a driving force in bringing Railfest to Steamtown in 2007.  He is still on the planning committee.

Now on to the trains.  Baldwin no. 26 smokes up for the Scranton Limited runs through the yard. Central of New Jersey RS3 no. 1554 leads the excursion bound for Moscow.  Immediately behind her are four Jersey Central coaches.

F3 diesel no 664 led the Caboose Experience, which was a short run through the yard.  Boarding for this train and the Limited allowed you to ride each with the same ticket.  There was no limit on how many rides you could take with these trips.

Great photos of the special event at Steamtown. Thanks for posting them.

As a result of creative marketing and proactive service, the Raritan Central Railway in Edison, NJ has been increasing its volume of traffic at an impressive pace. Generated by the growth in business has been a need for additional locomotives  During a recent visit to the RCRY's yard and shop area, I found three SW1500 units from LTE Rail enjoying their weekend layover. Two are of Southern Pacific origin and the third was built for the Southern Railway.

On Friday, September 9, I had a chance to go over to the former B&O line through Kensington, MD. Saw three trains in about 30 minutes.

First, a westbound MARC, led by #20, that stopped at Kensington. As it was slowing to a stop, MARC 23 came past in push mode headed back to Washington, DC. A film clip of this meet is over on "Weekend at the Movies."  Lastly, #112 led Amtrak's Capitol Limited west. then back over to the armory a block away to continue set-up for the weekend Train Days show.
