Got to Lombard @ 10am and the place was packed, many dealers and customers, good to see. Prices were fair, didn't see much of the old stuff and I think brass was down. Many NYC and Pennsy power and lots of Atlas and Weaver products, but that is what you always see.  Met many of my old rail buddies and happy to see they are still with us.

On30 Bachmann is starting to show up. Nothing wrong with it IMHO.

Hey George,

Great to meet you in person!   We had a ball!  We visited Jack Whelihan's Layout and George Kanary, and Myron______.  Lives in Beecher,Il.  Really neet guy.

I suppose if there was a little more SCALE down here I "Could" possibly desert my 3Rail.  But most of my crew is in to #rail or HO and I'm not going to HO.

Great Show!  Can't wait for INDY in September.

A friend informed me that additional tickets had to be printed on Saturday, mid-day, as so many showed up "off the street". Large number of vendors, wide array of products, but, as noted, I was quite surprised to see much less brass was for sale. Clearly things in O Scale are going "plastic". And O Scale by no means is fading away!

Mike Hill's Saturday afternoon presentation on his life experiences with steam was a real highlight, as were some of the anecdotes shared by a few of the master builders (particularly the 1947 tale of the streamlined Milwaukee 4-6-0 putting along at 35 MPH with the North Woods Hiawatha, to be follwed by a transfer to the mainline at New Lisbon, Wi, where an F7 Hiawatha Hudson took over, and ripped along at 100 mph+. Wonderful memories. Mike had his magnificent collection of of O Scale Hudsons, predominately NYC and B&A, but augmented by 4 CB&Q S4's (streamlined, de-streamlined, oil-burning and conventional as built), plus Wabash, C&O, CNR, CPR, NKP, CMStP&P, C&NW, Lackawanna, and Frisco examples. Viewing these beautiful models reinforced the exquisite symmetry of steam locomotives and the rich variety the railroads of North America offered.

Thanks to all who worked to make this show great and to Mike Hill and family for their efforts in continuing to lead the show.

I picked up several DPM building kits at a bargain of a price from a few of the sellers there.  Today, I picked up a Pecos River Brass 62' Conoco tank car from Norm Pullen of Norm's O scale Trains, and an Overland UP C44ACCTE from Bill Davis at an absolute deal!   I am a VERY happy man...LOL!   There were a few other things I wanted to go after, but after getting the loco, I decided to get out of there before I spent any more money......

Dan,

I guess I didn't pay the staff photographer enough, you didn't get any of me.  Either that or the waiver I signed didn't go through?

Serious, nice photos and thanks for sharing!

I believe both the DRGW 1989 and the BN F-Units used in the header of the site changed hands at this event.

Keep in mind that many of these were shot before the public was in on Saturday morning. By 10AM it was crowded!

I saw a LOT of dreamers but also many who where there to sell!

Dan,

That would be great!  Love to have you run anytime.

I think our next setup will be Galesburg Railroad Days in June unless something happens before!

Opps...  sorry about that. BTW, next time you guys set up, if I can make it, get some shots so I can replace some for the meet pages.

well attended show for sure.  lots of On3 brass.  more than i have ever seen in a while.  good prices on some brass pieces, then some really high prices on stuff.  so somewhat strange how pricing went.

nice model of NP passenger car in model contest.

visited a few layouts after the show on saturday night.

Yes, this is the flag unit with Building America!  Actually, Bill had this under his table and happened to mention what he had in passing which peaked my interest.  I was looking for a UP engine with this style of lettering to run with my NS diesels as "foreign power"...   I picked this up for $1500 cash price.   Alot better than the $2495 they went for new.   I admit, it was a tough choice to make....   I figured that if I don't jump on it, I may never find one of these at that price EVER!   It is absolutely gorgeous, and looks to be never run.   He did have two of the UP Dash 9s, plus a C90???? if I recall the number correctly, that I decided not to check out after I saw the C44 unit.  Figured I'd better get out before I bought something else.    I really did not like the Dash 9s, due to the minimal graphics on these units. That tiny UP emblem just looks too small on this unit, rather bland.....   I think Bill may have picked these up at the show, and was holding them under his table until the time was right.....

I sure hope Indy gets there problems worked out, with the dealers leaving early. The show's host insurance does not cover lawsuits, personal injury and such if someone gets hurt triping , falling, or personal injury falling over boxes, carts, etc. The Dealer is liable also is a lawsuit. If the dealer does not stay the advertised time. (Reference is from the Indy advert show past sponser that I know personaly).

I was at the show as a vendor. it was a great show with many, many wonderful sellers and tremendous attendance (in my opinion). Moreover, I was able to find a couple of missing puzzle pieces: a RGS #42 PSC/KTM Class C-17 and an Overland D&RGW C-18 #315. Both models are in mint condition. #42 was the final RGS loco I needed. I was able to visit a layout and enjoyed the company of some great people over the weekend - including my good friend Mike. Thanks for all of your help!

Now, back to work at my other job until the Indianapolis meet.
