Minnesota Trip Movies

Here's a short one of the computer monitor. Elliot has several hidden areas, but cameras record the action. Different screens are on the same monitor.

Not all movies on the trip were in Minnesota, or even of Lionel Trains. I hope you guys don't mind if I put a few others under this thread. Here's Amtrak's California Zephyr roaring West through Hinsdale, IL. We spent Friday afternoon at Hinsdale, watching the rush of trains. Over 25 trains in 5 hours. Mostly METRA of course, but lots of freight and Amtrak as well.

Just an unbelievable layout. Nice videos. You had quite a trip.

Since the videos seem popular, (Thanks, guys!) here's the Southwest Chief westbound.

This was the first night of the trip: July 19. The Lake Shore Limited was 6 hours late leaving Penn Station, New York ,because of a rockslide at Peekskill. so, we had night views up the Hudson river. I tried to capture the George Washington Bridge, and this is the result. Taken from the rear platform in the vestibule of private car Mount Vernon.

Stopped at Tarrytown for an operational issue, we are passed by a Metro-North commuter.

Now, some daytime action across Northern Ohio on Sunday, July 20.  This is "Boxcar Bill" territory!

I could spend an entire vacation at Big_Boy_2005's layout, at least until he threw me out anyway.   That's some layout.

Remember the clickitity-clack of old time railroading on jointed rail? You can still hear it on the Buckingham branch RR in Virgina. From the rear of Amtrak's Cardinal. This is the section of track between Gordonsville and Orange.

More METRA action at Hinsdale, IL. A non-stop express roars through.

Back in the day, when I was an Engineer, the Fourth District (Fullerton-San Diego) and the Second District (San Bernardino toLos Angeles via Pomona and Pasadena) were jointed rail.  I rarely had to look at the speedometer, as listening to the wheel clicks was pretty accurate in telling speed.  The train in the movie is running at 60 MPH.

Nice video. At 0:23 you can see where Lionel Lines used to branch off of the old C&O.

Does Buckingham Branch still have ex RF& P GP9 101 as restored by RF&P workers in the 1990's. Last I saw it, it was in poor shape. A real shame RF & P deserves to have something preserved.
