Modifying the Lionel 6-16109 B&O single dome tankcar

This tank car is from the #11719 Coastal Limited Set made in 1991. This set was a Lionel Service Station set. It was one of nicest train sets made by Lionel.

That is a nice car.  From the crisp lines of the frame and tank ends it appears to be all metal.  In the steam era I think there were 8,000 ga. tank cars for various industries so a string of just those or mixed in with other freights would make a great looking train.

The entire car is made of plastic.  The lettering is particularly well done.

I like it but the tank cars I remember from the steam era didn't have those steel racks around the dome.  There were lots of black ones.  I'd like a train of them.

Yes it was! And one of my favorites. Led by the D&H RS-3. A very colorful set!
