River City 3 Railers had a great time at the Great Big Greenhouse last night. Santa was there, and as always the small modular layout was a hit with the kids!
|
The modular looks good! Looks like some kids had fun, including the big one wearing the bow tie!
Peter, great looking kids!
When I saw the expression on the little boy, however, I immediately thought: "that's the look". I see it at every one of my club's open houses. It's the reason we open our doors to the public. Priceless!
Thank you, Pat......seeing faces like that makes the time and effort worth it! It truly is a labor of love!
Peter
Getting excited! The Science Museum of Va shows promises 3000-4000 visitors a day. Starting to pack up.

We're the "featured group" in the station Rotunda
We're also looking forward to utilizing the 12 ft extension of our 8 track yard.

Peter, Gilly and rivercity 3railers,
Neat stuff and good work, I definitely am planning a trip to Richmond to see the operation!
Looks like you guys were having WAY too much fun, Peter.
good pictures peter
When Weaver closed, JohnB made me an incredible offer on a 2-8-0 Consolidation. After a trip to the "Walt" backshop, it made it's debut this weekend at the SMV. It is now cab #917 in honor of the sole survivor in its class (one of the lost engines of Roanoke).
I must admit that TMCC locomotives do run better with Legacy.
Looks like a great time was had by all! What a terrific venue for a train show! I remember being in that building 25 years ago or more. They just don't build them like that any more.
Looks like a lot of fun. The layout looks good and the people have smiles on their faces. You got me looking forward to my club's holiday open house this weekend.

Great shots and a wonderful layout. I hope to see the layout on the 26th, scheduled trip to the big city!
Hokie 71..... Sorry that I will miss you.......have to work, but the gang will be there running trains.
Here's a new IMovie:
This is our December run so far!
Peter
Great videos gentlemen!! Looks like everyone is having a great time with a wide variety of trains. I like it, something for all.

Very nice work. Glad to see you had railings on the platform, too many of our workers have suffered injuries while tending to the layout chores without following posted safety procedures!
Thanks for all the comments....Ever since I took an IMovie class, I have become addicted......Here's another.....a much shorter one.....
Peter
Very nice videos Peter and Gilly! Looks like everyone had a great time!
Another new IMovie with different trains and I was attempting a shallower angle while shooting...
Peter
Great video, Peter. Thanks for posting.
The beer train made an appearance. The UP #80 is a great puller, once you get the ornery thing going!
52 cars on this shot. The Atlas and a case of the MTH Premier cars were left at home. I just didn't feel like messing with them.
Great videos, having a good time watching.
Here's a link to our most recent raffle winners....the kids sure look excited....

Nice pictures Peter. always glad to see these raffles go to young kids.
Updating with some photos now that we have completed our 2015 exhibition season which started in August and ended in mid-January.
1st is an overhead shot of the set up as it currently is.....approximately 21X34. These were taken by Tom (Gilly&N&W) from the 2nd level of the Science Museum of Virginia.
Also, you can see our "small portable" 6X11 layout which we take to smaller venues.
Peter
Next up is a "finish up" of shots from early January and our last day, January 16th.
Now.....we'll be building and upgrading till August....along with a few exhibits with our small layout....I suspect, we may be 10' longer by October......
I am so glad that I gave up being a solitary hobbyist and joined a group!
Peter
Well done! I like the idea of smaller layouts for smaller venues. You are showing how O Gauge is still fun in a smaller space.
The on the floor trains are a nice touch; keeps everyone involved.

In a very surprising development, it was announced yesterday that Maxwell D. Dogg, (River City 3 Railers official mascot) will be attending Law School next year.
Accompanying him will be Peter's son, to keep Max supplied in Kibbles and to keep him company . While club members were well aware of Max's Engineering talents, his desire to challenge the bar came as a total surprise. Should he choose to become a Prosecutor, we fully expect for him to take a bite out of crime. We wish Maxie well in becoming the first ever Jurist-Canine.

Max will certainly miss all the fun he had at RC3R activities!
Here's the video from yesterday.
Peter
Nice job Peter & Gilly. You guys do a lot of public display running. That is a nice contribution to the future of the hobby. Thanks for posting & good luck to Max and your son, Peter.
And, we had a good business meeting prior to running trains
Not a bad day
