Mother of all Bridges - Pamban

Very impressive, and unknown to me until your post. It was interesting to read the description on the YouTube page. One hundred years old next year!

I did not realize that the bridge will be 100 years old next year until you mentioned it. Nice to share a post with you and others on this forum!

Like I mentioned before,I have not been to and stayed on a site for that long (almost 3 years now). My wife says I am too full of energy and need to sit still. So this forum allows me to surf in so many ways and really provides a distraction because I get to read about and SEE interesting things in many countries! Basically trains take one virtually everywhere on the planet!

Apparently the Pamban Channel is quite a dangerous crossing for ships because it is so narrow.

According to this site here:

"More than 10 ships – cargo carriers, coast guard ships, fishing vessels and oil tankers – pass through the bridge every month. ...until recently, the two leaves of the bridge were opened manually using levers by workers."

fortunately, except for the channel, the water appears to be fairly shallow.
