Number 90,

Another candidate is TICKET TO TOMAHAWK. That movie was filmed on the Silverton Branch in 1949. 20th Century Fox accompanied the release with a flood of expert publicity. That alerted the public to an authentic part of "The Wild West" still alive and running, just as highways were making Durango accessible by car. The normally empty combine between Durango and Silverton began to fill up. The D&RGW, pleasantly surprised, began to run the Silverton Branch as a tourist line as well as a common carrier.

Another movie with magnificent scenes of the High Line south of Silverton is NIGHT PASSAGE, starring James Stewart. He plays his accordion and sings "Follow the River." Fortunately, to provide enough screen time for that song, the train rolls over the High Line several times. The last shot, with swelling orchestration, paces the train from a mountainside to the south. This movie was filmed in Autumn, and viewers familiar with the region can almost feel the chill in the air.
