Spence,

Good for you!  I take it this is the Premier with the auxilliary water tank.  I look forward to seeing one.  I have loved the N&W J ever since I saw the 611 in Roanoke over 25 years ago.  I saw the 1218 run, but never the 611.  I just got to see it at the museum.

A couple of weeks ago, I ordered the Imperial J 611.  My space and budget won't permit the Premier.  Lo and behold, my friendly Forum sponsor told me he had a #611 Imperial from the 2014 run left in stock.  So I took delivery on it.  Alas, it is the first MTH or Lionel locomotive I have had a problem with.  I detailed all that in another Forum Topic in the DCS folder.  So after talking with MTH Service today, I just shipped it to them at lunch time.  Not to worry, I have enough locomotives to run in the meantime, and I'm sure it will be a treat when it comes back.

Spence,

Enjoy your J.  I have a Railking that dates before Proto 1. It is conventional only without sound. I have considered adding protosounds or TMCC but haven't pulled the trigger yet. With my J, I pull a Williams 16 inch aluminum set with colored in people in the windows. Another oldie but goodie. I love the set and enjoy running it. Hope you enjoy your set as much as I enjoy mine.

MTH has done a good job with their Imperial line. I had the MT-1105 version of this engine and it was a very good puller. Scale-wise, it looks better when you put it in front of 18" Premier cars.

I divested myself of the RailKing/Premier consist in favor of the next generation Premier locomotive and the 3rd Rail cars. Waiting patiently...

Peter, the Premier will run fine on your 054! You're very welcome to borrow my 604 if you'd like to take it for a test run before ordering yours .

Now that you mention it, I think I did say that on a topic about possibilities for future LC+ engines.  I wouldn't hold my breath on Lionel listening to what I said however!  ;-)

It would also be an excellent LionMaster candidate.

The 600 J on the way to the scrapper's torch looked better than the weathered Lionel version. Dust it up a little if you want but I wouldn't suggest going overboard...

Even the 611 wore a doghouse on the tender at the very end of it's revenue days...
