I don't have the 3.0 version, but I can point out one cautionary note if you're thinking about getting one. It appears that some of the engines under that product number were marked on the box as having Proto 2.0, while most were as cataloged with 3.0. There were some posts about this at the time. As far as I know the ones that had 2.0 were so marked on the box. Be sure you're getting one with 3.0. I actually pre-ordered the set with passenger cars, but the dealer lost my order and when I heard about some of them coming out with 2.0, I didn't remind him.

I do have the older version of the Hiawatha with Proto 2.0. It runs very well and looks good with my Weaver cars. I had to replace the speaker once, but the MTH replacement speakers are better than the originals so it was worth it. Comparing 3.0 to 2.0, I have noticed that 3.0 generally has better sound quality, but does not achieve anywhere near the max volume of 2.0. This is only a factor if you run on a big club layout with a lot of engines making noise all at once.
