Anyone out there have experience converting a Scale Wheels MTH steam engine to conventional DC after a PS2 or 3 board fails? If memory serves, the drivers on both the fireman’s and engineer’s side are insulated in the Scale Wheels design.

The one that I have was converted to straight DC so I know it's not a major exercise. Wipers and pickup from one side of the tender trucks should do the trick.
Should be super easy the hard part is already done the insulated drivers. Just one wire for power and one for ground the only thing will be keeping things in phase because if not the polarity will change run backwards.
All,
Thanks for the advice and experience.

If it’s 3/2 capable, you can do all the isolation in the engine, if desired,…..note the probe pointing at the wiper towers, …the screw is missing in this example. …..the drive wheels are isolated from one another via nylon bushings that you can’t see,….so the wiper towers & the corresponding drives would be one side of the rail, and the entire frame and the other set of drivers would be the other side of the rail,….

Pat,
Thank you. This really helps. Some of the Scale Wheel pieces I have are equal to, if not nicer than the comparable brass one. Now I definitely have a plan ‘B’ when the board gives up the ghost.
