I have a Pennsylvania SW-1 that I love and after pulling it out and changing the dead battery followed by a charge, I still get no sound. Any ideas? This engine along with everything else was packed away in its box and hadn't been run in about a year.

First thing is to check the volume control under the locomotive.
Second thing is are you running conventional or DCS? You may need to do a Feature reset.
Stuart
Occasionally a Full Factory reset is required.
Bigger question: Does the engine Click once when power is applied to the track?
(This assumes DCS is connected, in Conventional it may also apply but it indicates the engine came up in Command mode, dark and silent.)
Next, try cleaning Pickup rollers, Drivers and track, might just be oxidation.
I had the same problem...the speaker went bad on mine.

Personally, I consider that a gift.
I agree Old Goat ....I have 4 of those MTH SW-1s and they all sound "sick"...I'm not even going to bother to fix it....they run great though !
I cleaned track, pickups, checked for clicking sound when put on track power and tried factory reset. All I get is a buzzing sound from the engine. It otherwise works fine. Try replacing speaker next??

My little SW1 (PS2) is a strong performer for me and it's previous owner. Mine was the layout display model at my LHS and racked up some mileage there before I bought it at a very reasonable price. Solid little engine. Sounds great, runs great. Very happy with it and has quickly become one of my favorites.
Does this take a 9V or the 2.4V battery? Yes, the next bet is to try changing speaker.
Some PS-2 5V system 16ohm speakers would deteriorate, and the metallic band around the magnet would turn to powder and clog the coils so they can't move to generate sound. Does the speaker look bad? Never saw this on the switcher speakers, but it is always possible. G

All of the MTH SW-1s use the 2.4V battery.

Same thing happened to me and found speaker went bad. Replaced and worked great. Can you test speaker ohm's to see if it is bad?
