OK here goes. I have my G scale outside now. So the basement G layout should be done and converted to all O scale. With such a short season of trains outside, I'd like to keep a loop down stairs. I tried to have one on the same table as my O. I admit I don't like how it looks. So I keep stalling down there.
I've seen overhead layouts and they look all the same to me. With my condition, there's no way I could lift the trains up and down that high. I just don't like that hanging ladder idea either. My ceilings are only 7' and the ductwork makes that even worse.
So it hit me! Duh. Why not take all the cabinetry I've made and layout supports, and just cut holes for the G scale down at the floor level? Maybe like a few inches off the floor so I don't need to remake all the cabinets? I've never seen it done but what am I overlooking? It would take some guts to cut so much.
I have 2 sump holes but I can span them and remove the track for servicing.
