Hi Guys, I want to use a Lionel 6-81603 for power to my TIU using the Aux Power Port. .  As all of you know the 81602 has a output at 18vdc.  My first reference was Barry's Bible 2nd Ed. Rev. 2/11 page 93.  states that any AC PS can be used that supplies 1.5 amps at 12-22 volts with a barrel plug. OK.  Digging into Barry's WIFI companion Rev. 6/17  page 86,  states that any PS that provides 12-22 ac/dc at a min 1.5 amps may be used.  I have been told on the forum that I can use the 81603.  I have been told on the forum that I can't use the 81603 since its output is dc.

Please some guidance. Thanks you for your input.

I would say since it can be used with ac or dc as long as the voltage output is the same and then current raring is at least above the minimum I would say it should work fine ok . 1.5 amp or higher and at least 12 to 22 volts ac or dc!

ok

just make sure the barrel plug is the right size or it wont fit and be to large or too small and not plug in at all. just check Barry's  book and make sure if the center of the plug have to be positive or negative otherwise should not be a issue. DCS companion!

I know the asc techs MTH sometimes use DC for transferring sound files with ps 3 engine they seem to have less issues download sound files to ps3 engines !

That would be forTIU channel track power.

For power for the TIU itself, you can also use either AC or DC voltage. However, if you use DC power for track power on Fixed #1 In, use DC for the TIU , as well.

Hi guys.  Thanks all for your time and input.  I appreciate this very much.  I'm planning my layout hardware while waiting for Tim (Mianne) get back to me. This  is where I'm at in the power segment.  DCS, of course.  A pair of 180 w bricks to my TIU fixed 1 & 2.  A Lionel 81603 to my TIU aux. power input.  A z500 for my switch relay power.  I have all three in house.  The last question I have is??  What is going to be my best source of variable power for all of my lighting needs, all  my track and operating accessories using a combined blend of Lionel, MTH, Atlas O, Menards, etc.  units.

Thanks.  for your help.  Best regards

Tommy
