Need help with a Lionel train

My cousin has a post war set that has a 682 engine, can anyone tell me what set this may have come with. According to the Greenberg repair book the 682 was only made two years 1954 and 1955. I knaow it was purchased as a set because my Aunt once told me my Uncle spent his entire pay check to buy it, she said around $50.
Any help will be appreciated.
