Need some help with Lionel Legacy Reset

Power up the track and select your locomotive (Eng 4),  Press the "R" button on the CAB2 keypad, typically the horn with blow.  Turn off the track power.  Then turn the track power on and select your locomotive, hopefully your locomotive is cured.

Does it have to be in prog mode or run mode?  Thanks

How about the actual Lionel product number so we know what we're dealing with?

It's a constant strobe effect from once track power is applied.

I followed those steps to the point where after you press aux 1, I no longer have numbers to press for the code input, I get the soft key features on screen for the unit.

Even tho you have the soft key icons, go ahead and press where the number positions would be and finish out the sequence.

Ahh I'll try that now and will post results.

Still constant strobe inside the cab, the flashing starts from track power on  before startup to after shutdown sequence to power off on the track.

Have you tried doing an AUX1-8 while it's running (in RUN mode)?  Sounds like the R4LC is trying to run a strobe light.

I have tried that while the train was running, press Aux 1 then push 1-8 on the keypad, also tried while running and holding Aux1 button in and pressing 1-8. Still constant strobe once power is applied.

I may be wrong, but my take from GRJ’s suggestion was “press Aux1 then press 8 not 1-8.  And, make sure the program/run switch is in run position.

Is the smoke button on or off ?

Just for kicks, if it's off try turning it on and running the engine and re-setting if still no luck.

If it's now on, try turning it off and running the engine and re-setting if still no luck.

That's actually a link to the TMCC reset codes.

There are legacy codes at the bottom of the chart John.

Are these only good when resetting  a legacy loco with a TMCC handheld?

Well, you can do resets with any TMCC or Legacy system. 

I was confused about that. It seems like most of the newest Legacy engines are restored simply by reprogramming the engine addressing number. But the earlier Legacy engines require using the Aux1 and then a number for restoring the features.

So I guess this is complete for all Legacy engines, old using the Aux1 and number 1 or 2 and the new Legacy engines with just reprogramming the address.

I believe you are 100% correct, but even with that said it still blinks.  I think I'm just going to open it up and pull the dam light plug

Got it guys, a big thanks to all the help. 

I was about to open it and pull the plug and said what the hell I'll try the reset once again. Not sure what the difference between this time and the other 6 or 8 attempts other then by now I knew the steps by heart and moved through the process much faster then before and after entering code 2 this time I got a horn burst and knew that was different from the others. Upon power cycle and back into run mode, the cab lights and everything is performing as it should.

The curoff for the different Legacy procedure is when the R4LC & DCDS was replaced with the RCMC integrated electronics in the 2011 timeframe.
