67 years old, Conventional Postwar only,
53 years old, Conventional Postwar until last summer.... (mostly around the winter holidays)
Started MTH DCS (wifi android app) after a spring trip to York and an Erie Triplex purchase ... now I am hooked !
Recently discovered I have 3 Lionel TMCC engines so will be giving Legacy a try over the next few months.
63 DCS and LEGACY
65 year old, DCS, DCS Wifi & Legacy. I have the MTH wifi premium app, but I still like the remotes the best for both systems. I run MTH with DCS and Lionel with Legacy, the 2 control systems are not connected.
I am command control only, it's what got me back into the hobby when I retired at the end of 2011.
I have 90% MTH DCS (almost all PS3, only 1 PS2), 10% Legacy with some of the new Legacy CC accessories. I also really want to give DCC a try in O with my DCS stuff. My grandson has HO so DCC is a possibility there as well.
Off to answer the other survey right after this one... Ameen, I also answered yours too.
68 - (1949 was a vintage year) Conventional.
49yo
O scale—Legacy, TMCC, Lionchief, and DCS
HO scale—DCC and DC
N scale—DC
Age: 41 years
O-Gauge 3-rail: going back to conventional control - finding it more fun, immediate and easy to share with the kids. ZW & KW.
O-Scale 2-rail: Digitrax DCC
80, TMCC primarily with some conventional.
Adriatic posted:I'm going to take part in both (here & hoopla ) because I see them as being slightly different.
I think this ones wording may allow more flexibility and draw of info providing the answers are in depth and hit the points. I think many, even in depth are lacking the initial thought though...
I believe the question may be more about preferences in use, or to purchase, not neccessarly what you own. ( O.P., Is that right Dan?)
Some folks have all the bells and whistles, but are not necessarily using them. Others may never have tried sound or any form of command. Where do they fall?
54 Lunar Cycles under the Asian Purple Star charts ( ) Conventional runner by choice. (there is a free unused dcs & tmcc waiting for years if I would just choose to take them home)
I have tried out 4 systems of command dcc, dcs, tmcc, & radio. I don't want to use one daily. There are times I wouldn't mind it, but don't really "need it" because my hobbying is first most about simple fun and having a creative outlet. That command means one less loco... at least . The tech chase can/would undermine that at times for me. Too much like old jobs to be super fun; I need the simplicity far more to relax and be happy.
I do own some command engines. More with just sound generation; but use them all sparingly and they wouldn't be sorely missed. (except for that whistle..... and I do use the bells (softly) more often the whistle lately, but I have no desire to put even those sounds in a xxxxT tender(t=no whistle), my silent GG-1, or silent diesels. After about 20min, the sounds are killed, but the session may last another hour or two easy. I like the old air whistles best, no matter the sound quality of a board or realism. I also prefer the warmth of analog sound reproduction over 32bit digital CDs, mp3 is a joke. At 64bit I can't really complain though.
A final note, I am a person with high functioning Autism. You likely wouldn't know unless I told you; just a "little" "weird", not "dumb". Unlike many "Aspie's", sounds are not often unbearable to me, especially mechanical rythms, which I usually find very soothing at any volume when consistant. ("it's your #4 intake still clicking at 3500rpm; lash it" ) Maybe that is why it isn't that appealing to me, the sounds do mask what is happening with the real mechanicals.... just a thought that it might be relevant somehow, and I just don't see it.... yet.
Adriatic, as always I value your comments tremendously!! We are all a little weird in my estimation! Run them however you like!!
39 - DCS and conventional
58 and DCS
63
Wifi DCS,tmcc, conventional. My favorite being DCS with an iPad.
49 and conventional although I do have TMCC which I use on occasion for a couple of TMCC and Legacy locos.
Age 55
Control System, DCS Handheld Remote
55 Conventional & LIONCHIEF plus , Future DCS
73, DCS
70 --- Conventional and TMCC
This is a fun post. A couple points I want to make is that I wonder for those that run conventional and command control, what is the percentage of each? I and others have mentioned conventional only on Christmas and Halloween layouts. This probably represents less than 1% of my annual operating time. In addition, I wonder how many of the above 50 demographic that were running trains like I was 25-30 years ago were thinking about running trains free of the transformer with slow speed operation? Anyway you look at it, the common denominator is fun!!!
32 - DCS
68, prewar lionel V 150 watt. But I mostly only have prewar trains mixed with
a few postwar marx and lionel. Oh, yes, and lets not forget clockwork. Now there is
high tech. How many winds for it to get around the layout and stop at the station??
64 and conventional. My TMCC thing died a few years ago and I understand Lionel doesn't fix that. Also, I have too many conventional engines to convert(I still use my postwar engines in rotation). The hand held conventional controller lost 3 or 4 volts thru the system which is a factor with some postwar engines.
Traindiesel posted:60 (and still purely sexaayyy)
DCS - handheld remote and Wifi
TMCC / Legacy - Cab-2 remote and Wifi
Conventional for older Williams only and occasionally Post War when I remove them from display
And I operate this way all the time, even during Christmas.
have you or do you belong to the san diego 3 railers?
I am 73, using TMCC, Lionel Legacy, Blue Tooth App, looking to use I-Pad....I enjoy seeing the new technology advances in our Hobby.
Don't forget to take the poll, link is in one of the above posts.
I noticed the figures have not changed in a couple of days.
78 years old. MTH DCS system only. Joe
65 today and when it is back up and running DCS with Wifi form the iPad and conventional for my Post War.
29, I use DCS with the remote and WIFI app
67 and use TMCC.
Grandson is 5 and runs his 0-6-0 lionchief on my TMCC layout.
52
conventional, LC, LC+, DCS
21 DCS, TMCC, Legacy, Conventional
68 and I run conventional and LionChief plus remote mode.

Good point!
Comand DCS 90%
Conventional 10%
always conventional, transformer or windup
I just got my first Lionchief Plus GP7 and downloaded the APP and now got the bug to upgrade my DCS & Legacy to run from my I Phone.
I use only Lionel Legacy control with Cab2. No app or anything else.
I am 51 and running TMCC engines with Legacy system and run a 1949 675 conventionally occasionally. When I start my layout this summer, I will have a loop of conventional somewhere on the layout for nostalgia. I am interested in some LC+ but only steam and looking for a good "cheap" Legacy engine.
I just got back in the hobby at Christmas and this is my first O gauge/scale...have HO and N in boxes in storage.
67. Using Lionel Chief Plus controls on two units (RS-3 & Camelback). Transformers are: Lionel 1033; Lionel Type "S"; Marx 1669 (ac for trolleys); Troller Momentum 1 (DC for trolleys). A strange lash-up but it works.
60-TMCC/Legacy
67 TMCC & Conventional.
