On this day (April 21) in 1943 all service on the Central's Getty Square Branch on the Putnam Division ceased.
The Getty Square Branch was electrified and ran from Van Cortlandt Junction (JS Tower) to downtown Getty Square in Yonkers, NY and was approximately 3 miles long. It connected with the Hudson Division, terminating at Sedgwick Ave. in the Bronx.
A lengthy court battle froze the line before the railroad got permission to scrap it in 1944.
