Thanks to Dave and the good people at Evans Designs, a long awaited project has become a reality. Ever since I installed this bridge on the layout some seven years ago, I have wanted to light it up. Since I was doing a renovation project on other parts of the layout, I thought lets try again to see if LED string lights are now available. This time Evans Design provided me with six separate strings, four at 70" long and two at 80" long to do the cables. The bridge now sure lights up the surrounding waterfront.

Did you have a nice meal on the "Newport Dinner Train"?  I have enjoyed that many times.  We take our grandchildren to have cookies with Mr & Mrs Claus.

Newport sits on an island called Aquidneck Island with a beautiful bay surrounded by a land mass called Providence Plantations.  Welcome to my home....

I actually live right over in Bristol and work for them as an engineer and conductor. I've been working and volunteering on Aquidneck Island since I was a Freshman almost four years ago.

Thanks to you all for your comments. I see it has brought back many memories to those who have lived in Rhode Island or still do.

Captain John, I would love a Del's Lemonade truck on the layout. When I lived in the Bay Area (CA), we went to a craft fair in Pleasanton and we were shocked to see a Del's Lemonade truck. Of course we sampled the home grown product and the folks who manned the truck were relatives of the owner from Rhode Island.

Bill, I have taken the Jamestown ferry also many times.

When I built the current layout, I wanted a memory from my home State. Since I love Newport, I decided to use the Newport Bridge for this memory or for nostalgia.

Great model, it reminds me of my stay in Newport. While in the Nay around 1970, I was stationed there, first at the Naval Station, later at Sachuest Point (spelling), a which was on the southeast tip of the island, nd over at beavertail Point which was the southern tip of Jamestown. I also visited from the sea a few times aboard a Destroyer, and in fact once took the ship to a,floating drydock over at Quonset Point Air Station. Long time ago. Thanks for the memories.

Your son Jim was responsible for turning me onto Evans Designs for the LED string lights. Without his help, this would not have happened. A big thanks go out to Jim.

Many of you may not know it, but Jim does custom layout work. He is a master electrician and has just helped me with new rotary controls for the new switch yard.

Good for you Mathew...  Email me and maybe we can share some hobby time.

I couldn't figure out how to email you, my email address is mhorning432@g.rwu.edu

Brian, that's correct, Evans Designs made the custom lighting package. It was very easy to install and the strings had some good stiffness to them making the project much easier than I expected. They are sending me two blinking red lights for the towers. There is a Coast Guard rescue helicopter nearby, so I thought this would be a good idea.

Again, thank you all for your very nice comments.
