I just made a trip this past weekend on Amtrak 74 and 75. So I was able to see the work being done on both side of the train. To start the Line will be Double tracked from Charlotte at Junker Jct to Haydock interlock. Right now that section of track between Junker and Haydock is single track. Work is under way to added the second mainline so a lot of trees have been cleared along Old Concord Road in Charlotte. Work is also taking place between Thomasville and Highpoint with realignment and adding the foundation for a new double track road bed. I was surprised to see the amount of work that’s going into added the 2nd mainline back into place would have figured putting the 2nd on top of the old roadbed would have been easy but the plans also called to straighten out more curves and install high speed crossover switches. This is all planned for future High Speed rail in the Southeast Corridor. I'm guessing most if not all of the work will be completed sometime late next year.
