FYI -- all of the current SD70ACe order will be heritage units and factory painted.

Within the ES44AC order units 8098 - 8105 will be heritage and painted at either
Altoona or Chattanooga.  The balance of the order will be delivered in primer and receive the standard horsehead.

Unit 8098 is in the booth at Altoona receiving its Conrail paint.

Unit 8099 is in the booth at Chattanooga receiving its Southern paint.

Unit 8100 is next in line at Altoona for its NW paint.

Unit 8101 is in line at Chattanooga for its Central of Georgia paint.

Units 8102 - 8105 are yet to be delivered.

Hope that this adds a little more to everyone's knowledge base.

Man, stuff is happening faster than I can catch it.

It is being reported elswhere that a nineteenth unit has been added to the heritage program -- a GEVO in PC livery.  I haven't seen anything in writing to make it official yet.

The Conrail unit (8098) pictured earlier is on its way to Conway.  It is expected to begin revenue service tomorrow (16 March).

Pittsburgh fans -- keep your eyes open!

For those of you looking for more "status" information try the AltoonaWorks facebook page.  They've posted a picture of the next unit in the paint booth and announced that Altoona will be painting the NKP, PRR, and LV units.  Looks like DuPont was able to recreate the Cornell red mixture for the LV heritage loco.

That's a tough call - what do most railfans want (aka 50.1%), a progression of the last livery or a "what if"?

I was just over at RP and I think I searched over 600 Southern photos and couldn't find one green freight diesel.  I think the Southern version should be black, white and gold (like Swafford's illustration), but that seems to be taken for Savanah and Atlanta.

On the other hand, who's to say N&W wouldn't have adopted this scheme had they stayed N&W?  Think KCS.

I like last known freight livery - more of a "you were there (now)" vrs a "what if".

Here is a photo of a GP-59 painted in SOUTHERN green/white/gold. Although a special 'one-time' paint scheme, it shows a SOUTHERN freight diesel in the paint scheme that you were looking for.

The SOU #4610 was painted in 1994 for the 100th Anniversary of the SOUTHERN RWY, repainted again in GREEN in 2004 and was returned to NSOU BLACK in February 2012.

Perhaps it can be called the NSOU's first 'heritage' locomotive.

Frank, the Lehigh & New England was abandoned in 1961.  Portions of it (Pennsylvania cement territory) were operated by the Jersey Central for awhile -- and someone please correct me on this because I'm not 100% -- the Reading took that over shortly before CR.  I'm pretty sure it wouldn't count as a pre-CR/pre-NS road.

On the other hand, the Lehigh & Hudson River DID make it to CR and I know there's been rumors floating that it may make it onto the extended list should NS decide to add more -- and the addition of the PC unit seems to make me think a few more may be added.

The one southern road I wished they'd added was the Tennessee Central, but no dice on that.
