Does anyone here leave the covers loose on the switch drive of O22 switch tracks. I thought it would make servicing the switch drive simpler where switch tracks are already in place on a layout.

Yes, I leave the covers loose. So far, they have stayed in place just fine.
Yes leaving the cover loose is good but you may want to use Velcro to hold them in place. Lenny
Yes. They stay in place. Funny though, I have't had to remove them for maintenance since doing so.

That's 'cause Murphy hasn't found your layout yet.....LOL
Not much to fix under the switch motor cover. Most problems occur with the sliding contacts under the rails. These contacts have to be cleaned regularly for proper operation. It requires the switch to come off the layout. Leaving the cover loose over the switch motor does not seem very useful.
