OGG - O Gauge Garage - First Production Run.

Go Jamie !!! I am gonna keep an eye on these ... might be up for a couple myself if you continue on with them !

I use a water jet cutting house in northeast PA (they ship). Getting these cut out would be very inexpensive if you plan to do more than a few.The quality is outstanding and no deburring. Contact me if you want details.

Thanks for the heads up Jim. I will look in to it for future batches as it is taking hours to cut them all out by hand.

I will keep you posted on progress. Hoping to have the first batch finished by the end of next week.

Well the wagons are slowly taking shape. Holes have been drilled and the river detail added. Mostly cutting and bending left now.  Hopefully all the tin work will be done by end of day tomorrow. 

Some more progress today. Tin work is all done and painting is well under way.

Finnished tin work been inspected by the rather furry QC inspector..

Baking on the etch primer. 

First colour coat started.

Well I received a commission to make two wagons for a gentleman through a post on Facebook of my Hornby M1 Compatible wagons. 

Well in for a penny in for a pound - I have decided to make a small production run of these wagons. The plans for the first five have been drawn up and work is about to commence. 

 

 

They will be stamped OGG for O Gauge Garage as that’s were they will be made  - in my small garage. It is also a tribute to O Gauge House a manufacturer of course scale NSWGR prototypes who manufactured from the 1930’s through to the 1950’s. 

My wagons are quite simple compared to those made by the original O Gauge House.. but I guess I have to start somewhere. .

Each wagon will have a serial number. 01 and 02 have been spoken for already but 03-on I will list in the For Sale section.  

There will be improvements over the prototype including:

*Etch priming undercoat 

*All metal parts will be painted with high quality enamel with  two clear coats. Each coat will be oven cured for durability

*Removable lumber load with small lifting ring for use with Hornby tinplate platform cranes. 

*Tinplate profile wheels made from impact resistant, low wear polyurethane. (Fun Fact. The wheels are cast using a 70yr old two piece mould originally designed for producing bakerlite wheels.)

Pricing will be around the US$30 mark.

Thanks Ron for the heads up. I have now added my email address to my profile page.  I’ll send you an email tonight. 

Well the clear coat has been started. There was a reaction between the paint layers causing some fish eyes on one wagon. Hopefully careful  sanding and some extra baking should save the day before the addition of the final coat.  

14 of the 20 wheels have now been cast to.  

Will commence work on these again mid next week once life is back out of the way. 

Not much to report other than all the wheels and the couplers have been made. 

Repainting has started.. however the weather has turned inclement and put a stop to proceedings. Hopefully within a day or two the weather will improve. 

Spent today’s free time making a prototype for the new wood load design and am now half way through making the production ones. Here is a pic of the prototype undergoing testing at the Robilt station. 

Had a productive day today and despite the Mercury topping 104 degrees F (40c) (Summer is coming early down under by the looks) I was able to finally complete and track test the first batch of wagons. 

Drum Roll..... Presenting the  OGG “Lowood” lumber wagon! Here is a look at the first batch ( Each wagon has been stamped with a Serial number from AA01 - AA05. ) 

The only change in specification is the matt black finish. To compensate there are 4 coats of matt black with each coat having been oven cured. Overall I am happy how they have turned out. It looks as if the first batch have all been sold pending payment. I am planning a second batch of lumber wagons. If you are interested please contact me on the email in my profile page.
