My boss took this picture in Colorado last week and I am trying to define what engine it is. He also was curious why it took 5 engines to pull two cars?

Not AC6000s. The radiators overhang the rear on an AC6000 and you cant miss it. As far as what they may be otherwise. AC44's, ES44's or Dash 9s, They're kinda far away and I dont know the external differences well enough.
The engine on the point 6858 is an AC44CW. Have to look at the picture more closely to identify the rest.

Hi Dennis,
The first unit is U.P. 6858 and does appear to be a GE AC4400CW, the second is U.P. 6466 also a GE AC4400CW, the third is U.P. 7145 which I believe was converted to a GE AC4400CW. I can't tell what the road numbers are for the rest but they all look to be AC4400CWs' as well. 5 units?....may have just been a power move.

Either that, or they were REAL heavy cars!
