They have been running steam for years in the UK with great success.

Makes the USA look like a couple of drunks who needs a sky scraper worth of paperwork and expenses to keep the trains in the basement.

I follow NW Rails and their videos. I am not sure where the link is now, it has been a few years and several computers since I last visited. Once in a while the Royal train is brought out and some of the steam videos are quite well done.

Even the Queen herself has been known to pay the senior citizen fare and hop a commuter once in a while. Usually the Bodyguard force that protects her take over like half the rail car and prevent any one who has the idea to sit with the Queen a while on way to work.

Also, Steam has been used to rescue stuck trains in winters past. I think it was the recently built Tornado that had the honor of bringing in some stranded commuters when the mains failed due to winter.

It is nice when the large railroads to run a steam once in a while; for every engine that runs I can probably see several more that COULD run but will not due to anything from Politics all the way to FRA etc.

The UK has shown us the way and how it should be done. We will do well to make use of it ourselves.

I don't actually follow the live steam activity too much, even though I live here, but I seem to remeber reading somewher that it isn't a breeze in the park to run steam, there are lots of hoops to get through and it is tough running steam hear. I believe the equivalent 15 year FRA equivalent is 12 years, so it is a tad stricter han in the US but I will be happy for someone more knowledgable than I to expand on this. Regards, Neil
