Origin and Meaning of Forum User Names

I was eating breakfast one morning and my Forum User Name just came to me out of the blue.

My name reflects my appreciation to my father who would take me too the ACL passenger station to watch trains when I was about 6 or 7. The purple reflects the purple  diesels I remember from those visits.

Ha, ha, yeah, we are the boring ones. I used my real name, figuring it would keep me from posting something I might regret. Not sure that has always worked.

Purplepapa: My very first HO diesel had that attractive ACL purple livery! Truly, one of the iconic color schemes!

Craftech.   Business name that has been used for many years in different forms.

Latest iteration:  Craftech Productions (a videography business specializing in (temporarily suspended) stage productions.

My home layout is based upon the New Haven RR so I selected NH Joe.

Since I live in CA and have more western trains than NH trains, maybe I should change my name to Beach Boy Joe?  NH Joe

Triple O - The Odious Orange Octopus. Only name I have ever used on the internet. Title given to me by a 155 battery commander in Vietnam in 1969.

When I first joined in about 06, I had been quite active, but fell away for a while. When I came back, I couldn't remember my original name, so I started a new membership. I tried a few variations with rail included, but they were taken, so I just cut it down to rail, and that was available. My name on one of a few music forums I belong to is Imnidiot.

My Mum and Dad picked my Forum name way back in 1956.  It still works.

Well, my real name is Artie, and I’m a fan of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western.

Being a Trekie, I got mine handle from a book about the Star Trek time line from the 1950 up to Star Trek the Motion Picture.  Book talks about the future of warp drive past the Enterprise and they called it Superwarp.  Still have the book, I'll get the name of the title when I get home.  They pop up on the Bay from time to time.

First initials of the family first names. (Original I know), the 18 is an important number.

It morphed into the name of my RR too- The RSJ&B.

Lo!  These many years ago, my friends and I spent many hours buried in a number of RPGs.  Palallin* was the landname of the character I used most frequently and in a number of different systems.  In D&D, for example, the character was (as of the last time he was used) a 42nd Level Archer-Ranger.

*Pronunciation (without resorting to IPA):  PUH (rhymes with Duh!) LAL (rhymes with Hal, this syllable stressed) LIN (rhymes with Lynn); both of the double Ls are pronounced, as if one were to say "hall lamp" in English.

The first forum I ever was on about Lionel Trains was  Michael Spanier   forum as here I was pretty active showing Super O and asking and displaying my trains.

So I used the handle of DanssuperO

After I sold everything I  decided to go old school and build a attic Lionel  tubular layout

I kept my old handle because IF ..either when I die or someone reads or looks at a article with DanssuperO  in it, they will find me  (grandkids someday!  lol) and see what I was interested in . or help someone else ...

Aslo if you ever google your handle you will see what I mean ..

Wow, I'm glad you told us where the name came from.  I never had any interest in games.  Also, thank you for the pronunciation.  I have been pronouncing it in my mind with the same phonetics as the old Richard Boone character Paladin from the television program Have Gun Will Travel I watched as a boy.

Interesting topic, Art (or should we call you Seneca ) - I must admit to wondering about quite a few screen names. As for me, my last name is Appel, which is still regularly mispronounced Apple 🍎. Long, long ago, when I was young, I had fairly bright red hair, so I (and my older brother before me) became Apples. It was so pervasive in High School that halfway through, a friend who had been in my class from day one asked me what my real first name was!!! As for the 55, that’s the year I was born.

I grew up in the Juniata River Valley of central PA. My grandparents had a summer cottage right along the river. I’d go up and stay with them - typically the weeks my grandfather was working graveyard as my grandmother didn’t want to be alone in the cottage all night.

My days were spent fishing, swimming and canoeing in the Juniata River hence “Juniata Guy”.

Oh; the cottage sat about 100 or so yards from the PRR Middle Division main line so there was some train watching going on too! 😉

The initials of my given and middle names (Jumpin' Jehoshaphat). Also, a nickname that has been applied to me by some people over many decades.

I have driven a Honda Odyssey for two decades. As that name was already taken, I had to settle for ODDISHE for the personalized license plate. I was also aware that it forms a three word sentence: “Odd is he. “ I was surprised how many people read it as “Odd is SHE.” “Oh well,” I began to respond, “It all depends on who’s driving it.”

For the OGR forum, I made it a question by adding my initials.

Growing up in the NYC borough of Queens, in a neighborhood of close together one and two family homes, there were a lot of kids around my age of every nationality, race and religion.

We all had nick names, usually based on out nationalities. Before Americanizing it, my father's last name was Wojciehowski. All of my friends called me 'Ski as a result. I still have several of these friends and they still do so. A fellow forum member does too.

I'm sure that you can figure out the "Lionel" half of my screen name, now you know the rest.

NYC subway trains used to have rows of straps attached to the ceiling for riders to hold onto while the trains were in motion. Over time, subway commuters became known as Strap Hangers in NYC.  I grew up riding the nyc subways, so the handle was a no brainer.

Great topic. My forum user name is simply my initials.

I own a 1965 Rambler Classic station wagon. Rambler Don has become a common nickname for me.

Interesting thread. Maybe the other topic/question would be; ask what specific forum "handles" really mean.

OK,,,,,,,I can relate to THAT,,,,,,,,but why is your avatar of a tractor?  If had such spectacular vehicles, I would sure want a photo of me in a Cobra!

LOL..well antique tractors are also a passion as are Winchesters ..My Grandson loves the tractors and thats the pic I had with me in it ..The cars are in my profile under things I love
